Following the Tucker defeat Douglas won four successive fights and went to fight Trevor Berbick in 1989, winning by a unanimous decision. Douglas failed to perform well against Tony Tucker and was knocked out in ten rounds. ![]() This earned him a shot in the International Boxing Federation tournament that Michael Spinks was stripped of for refusing to protect it. The following year he fought up and coming rival Jesse Ferguson, but was defeated by majority decision. Douglas got the better of the former heavyweight competition by winning a majority decision. On November 9, Douglas was scheduled to fight heavyweight competition Trevor Berbick in Vegas. In his last fight of 1983 Douglas was controlling competitor Mike White, and then lose the fight when White knocked him out in the ninth round. Following the draw Douglas went to defeat mostly journeyman boxers during another fourteen months. Bey knocked Douglas out in the next round to give him his first defeat. Douglas held the title for eight months and fourteen days, losing on October 25, 1990, to 28-year old, 6-foot-2-inch, 208-pound Evander Holyfield, via third-round KO, in his only title shield.ĭouglas made his debut on and conquered Dan O’Malley in a four round fight.
